Representing 250 credit unions with $83 billion in assets and 7 million members, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU) is the trade association for Alabama and Florida credit unions. It provides advocacy, compliance support, education, training, and information with relevant services and business strategies to support its members in fulfilling their missions. Therefore, our mission is to ensure an operating environment that enables credit unions to grow and succeed.

Working for the LSCU & Affiliates, the successful Chief Financial Officer candidate will be responsible for directing the finance and administration functions of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates.  They will serve as a member of the Executive Management Team (EMT) and will have significant interaction with team members, LSCU & Affiliates Board of Directors as well as Alabama and Florida credit unions.

 Description of Duties:

  1. Manage the accounting & finance, human resources, information technology, and facilities & operation functions of LSCU & Affiliates.
  2. Administer the full range of financial and accounting services, and maintain the necessary systems and procedures to achieve proper control and to safeguard assets while providing accurate, timely, financial reporting and assistance.
  3. Strong understanding of US GAAP accounting principles and therefore able to provide US GAAP accounting guidance to the accounting team as required.
  4. Oversee the preparation of all consolidated financial statements, cash management, budgeting, and tax and capital planning and reporting.
  5. Maintain check signing and wire transfer authority for all financial accounts maintained by LSCU & Affiliates, and managed corporations.
  6. Keep self and team members advised of all federal and state regulations (current and future) as well as industry trends which impact their area of responsibility.
  7. Analyze and recommend appropriate data processing and accounting policy changes; in conjunction with team members, prepare policy considerations for presentation to the President & CEO.
  8. Oversee personnel activities for assigned team members; responsible for coaching, developing, and mentoring, completing performance evaluations, corrective actions, and routine administrative duties; and monitoring for schedule adherence.
  9. Keep President & CEO and LSCU & Affiliates Boards of Directors apprised through both written and oral reports.
  10. Represent LSCU & Affiliates externally as required.

*Perform other duties and special projects as assigned. 

The ideal candidate will possess, at a minimum, the following qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or accounting. CPA or an advanced degree required. 
  2. A minimum of ten years of previous experience in the functional area of finance and accounting.
  3. Demonstrated technical expertise and a record of success and achievement.
  4. Character must be of the highest integrity with professionally sound judgment so as to enhance the reputation of LSCU & Affiliates.
  5. Ability to provide innovative thinking, promote new ideas, and identify cost savings across all functions and business units.
  6. Broad business perspective with sound judgment; capable of analyzing complex business and management problems to arrive at effective solutions or recommendations.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective public speaking and ability to present ideas in a clear, concise manner.
  8. Proven leadership skills, prior supervisory experience, and the ability to delegate and manage others effectively.
  9. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with coworkers in a team environment.
  10. Excellent organization skills and the ability to prioritize and effectively complete many multi-facetted, complex projects with conflicting deadlines while staying within budgetary constraints.
  11. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  12. Knowledge and understanding of history, development, and philosophy of credit union movement.

This position will require travel within Florida and Alabama. For this purpose, a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history is required. Airline Travel will also be required although not frequent.
